Carlton is a filmmaker, writer, and photographer with a background in radio, teaching, and media activism. She directed her first feature film, the multi-award winning, HANNAH FREE, starring Emmy-winning actress Sharon Gless, in 2009. The film tells the story of Hannah and Rachel who grow up in the same Midwest town, where traditional gender expectations eventually challenge their deep love for one another.

Her second feature, JAMIE AND JESSIE ARE NOT TOGETHER has won an Audience Award, Three Best Feature Awards, and a Jury Award for Best Actress (Jessica London-Shields). The film marks Carlton’s first film as both writer-director and is the perfect anti-date movie – with songs! Telling the story of Jamie who decides to move from Chicago to New York in two weeks, hoping to become a Broadway actress. Her best friend Jessica is bummed, because she thinks she is in love with Jamie, so as moving day gets closer, she tries to make Jamie jealous by dating other women, with hilarious results.

The film has received very favorable reviews including from LA Weekly, Afterellen.com, Roger Ebert and Curve Magazine.
